*** Aether has joined 018.07.154.55 <Aether> Hello. You have reached Lusamine Mendel. <Aether> Please leave a message, and I will get back to you shortly.
Oh, Niina... It's quite all right. I only... worry, you know.
[Though she loathes it still, she is... perhaps getting used to this: her children getting taken away by other things for brief periods before coming back to her. It's easier now, at least, to understand, forgive, and trust that they really would return, rather than spiral immediately into terror and resentment. In Ryslig, it seems this skill is a necessity.
Still, she was apparently right to worry in this case; Niina is clearly under stress.]
In any case, you certainly didn't need to get me a gift just to have my attention. I'll always be here to listen to whatever is on your mind. [Holding the package in one hand, she reaches out the other to fondly stroke the synthetic fibers of Niina's hair. Then, she steps inside, beckoning for Niina to follow.] Come in and sit.
[Things have changed a lot in the past half year. Wakaba had left once again, leaving her directionless. Her robotic mind needed that source of direction. The Fog god provided it for a long time then Wakaba refocused her energies to the school and now there was an empty hole. The moon incident and the following events really made it obvious something needed to change.
So she turned to Lusamine once again. She'd always been, well, motherly to Niina. Kind. That was enough for her even if old memories stirred--don't be loud, don't be aggressive--so she took a gift instead. Well, several. The papers in her hand were proof of her monsterhood: proof that she, Niina Yamada, could kill on her own and make some small impact on Ryslig. The package were spoils taken from the event that caused the headlines--she had killed a businessman and made it look like an accident but not before stealing his gold pocket watch.
Bringing it to Lusamine wasn't just a gift. It wasn't just that she went out and bought it. No, she was strong enough to get it and get away with it. The businessman was on her hit list to begin with and he just happened to have some connections she thought would prove useful for the moon incident. He didn't but... well, she could at least do this much with his death.]
...mm. Yeah... [It's still weird being able to say that. That an adult cares about her. That she receives such a tender touch without having a harsh scolding before. Niina's mechanical body seems to relax instantly for a few moments. She nods. That order is easy to follow. She practically plops down on the nearest seat.]
I wanted to stop whatever was going to happen because of the moon. [She sighs.] Thought this guy was a lead to find out some things about the moon. He didn't know anything but guess throwing him out a window means that they didn't think a monster killed him.
[Niina, this isn't explaining anything! She scratches the side of her screen.] That's a good thing. Right? Getting rid of sh--nasty humans like that. Makes things a bit safer.
['Am I doing good? Am I good monster?' She doesn't ask those questions but those definitely are what she means.]
[Lusamine sits in the chair across from Niina's, with the package held in her lap. She doesn't open it immediately, instead waiting for Niina to make herself comfortable and start sharing the troubles on her mind. When she does start speaking, those newspapers she'd been holding suddenly make sense.
Lusamine furrows her brow, looking more confused than anything.]
If he did have some connection to this business with the moon... Then yes, I suppose it would have been.
[Now, on the other hand... It seems a bit like a waste of energy and meat.]
What made you think that he had anything to do with it?
[There's silent static for a while. After all, she doubted Kaito would work with a human like that. She paused.]
I thought since he was giving money to some scholar type people he might know who was doing moon research. Since I said I'd help some of the idiots who crashed into the moon.

cw: some implication of abuse, talk of (non feeding) murder
